Chewable supplements are all the rage in gastric bypass vitamins these days. All over the internet you see advertisements, websites, and blogs flaunting their “tasty” products. Don’t believe everything you read. Chewable supplement manufacturers claim chewables are the best way for you to take your supplements and a key ingredient in your gastric bypass diet.
I am well aware that a weight loss surgery diet must include additional bariatric vitamins and supplements. But I’m honestly a little wary of the chewable supplement fad. Sure, the ads are nice and I’d really love to believe the claims.
Flashy advertising for pretty and costly products may not be so concerned with the patient’s health. Their top concern is usually just to sell more products. Splashy ads may be a sign of higher risks taken to draw consumers.
The Real Truth about Chewables
Don’t like to take pills? Not a huge fan myself. Chewables sound very attractive to people who are wary of swallowing pills. After all, what could be better than a fruit flavored supplement? It seems like a win-win situation: nutrition and a tasty treat.
WRONG!
Something most of us never think about, unless someone else informs us, is how these chewables get their taste and “chewability”. The easy answer is this. Fillers, fillers, and fillers! The only reason you are able to munch on chewable forms of supplements is because they are loaded with fillers.
What’s so Bad About Vitamin Fillers?
Claims that say chewable supplements are more easily absorbed are just plain untrue. You should be concerned that fillers can hinder the absorption of your bariatric supplements. Fillers bind to the vitamins and minerals, which hinder their absorption. These fillers can be harmful to the system in both the short and the long term.
Many companies that manufacture nutritional supplements really don’t care what goes into their products as long as the active ingredient is there. They can be jammed with fillers like magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, silicon dioxide, titanium dioxide, and ethylcellulose, to name just a few. I don’t know about you, but when I am thinking about healthy products, these words make me think twice.

When you are embarking on your new healthy lifestyle, do you really want to add artificial fillers to your diet? Do your homework. Choose healthy supplements. Make sure your gastric bypass vitamins and supplements are equal to your goal of a new healthy lifestyle.
